Limited edition

This is my butterfly-skeleton and my mask artwork.  These artworks are based on the organic architecture which constituted a new wave in architecture in the 1900s.  Antoni Gaudi was one of the founders of this art nouveau / jugendstil style. In Catalonia, where Gaudi’s most prominent buildings and objects can be viewed, this style is designated as the Catalanian modernism.

Some of the most famous Gaudi buildings are amongst others casa Batllo, which is also referred to as House of Bones.  The roof of this house depicts the backbone of a dragon which gets killed by saint George, the patron saint of Catelonia.  The casa Calvet has been designed by Gaudi too, although this doesn’t represent his typical style.  This is because among all his work this is his most conventional building.  The applied symmetry and repetition of forms are unusual for Gaudi’s work.

One of Gaudi’s biggest works has not yet been completed!  The Sagrada Familia is expected to be completed only around 2026.  This marvelous piece of architecture which has been intitiated in 1882, is still under construction, which unfortunately doesn’t benefit the overall view.  But the one who can still be patient for 9 years, may contemplate an extraordinarily beautiful building.

The base picture for these artworks is the gatehouse of the Parc Guell in Barcelona.  The vaulted form of the roof functions perfectly to ressemble a bone structure of a butterfly, which you can see in my first artwork. Through further processing with colour techniques a mask is created, which you can see in my second artwork.
